SSYRA/SSYRA Jr Important Information

We are very excited for this year’s SSYRA and SSYRA Jr programs! Please see below for specific information regarding each program.

SSYRA Jr (grades K-2): The list can be found at https://www.floridamediaed.org/ssyra-jr.html.  We will be reading the 10 picture books aloud in the media center.  Students are free to check out any of the 5 short chapter books to bring home and read with their families or independently.  Those titles are Beak & Ally; Cornbread & Poppy; Doggo & Pupper; Sir Ladybug; and Bibbidi Bobbidi Academy.  Students may earn brag tags for reading the 5 chapter books by taking a short quiz online.  To access the quizzes, please visit our media center website at https://www-ccs.stjohns.k12.fl.us/media/ and click on “SSYRA Jr Quizzes” on the right.

SSYRA (grade 3-5): The list can be found at https://www.floridamediaed.org/ssyra.html.  Students are free to check these books out as they are available in the media center.  To earn brag tags and other incentives, students must take the corresponding quiz for the book read.  To access the quizzes, please visit our media center website at https://www-ccs.stjohns.k12.fl.us/media/ and click on “SSYRA Quizzes” on the right.  Students may earn a brag tag for each book, a reading bracelet once they read 5 books, a sweet treat once they read 10 books, and an invitation to our end-of-the-year ice cream party if they read all 15 books.  If students would like to try out for the Battle of the Books team, they must read and pass the quizzes for at least 10 books by the tryout date, which will be in the mid-December timeframe (specific date TBA).

Please feel free to reach out to Mrs. Tutten at [email protected] any time with questions or concerns.  It’s going to be a great year!

Honor Books

We have a selection of “Honor Books” available in our media center.  The books are not barcoded and are not party of our regular media center inventory; however, we provide these titles as an option for our students who wish to read in the media center when they visit, and we make them available on the honor system for students to borrow when they do not return their regular library books.  You may click here: Honor Books to access a list of the titles in our Honor Books collection.

Objection to Resources

We welcome and appreciate parental involvement in the selection of their students’ media center choices.  We strive to provide materials that are of the highest quality and include a wide variety of genres, topics, and interests; however, we understand that not every item may be right for every student or family.  If parents choose to restrict a student’s access to specific titles, they may contact the media center at any time for an alert to be placed on the student’s media center account indicating the titles may not be checked out.  If a parent wishes to restrict their student’s access to ONLY specific titles, they may do so by utilizing the form HERE.  If a parent or member of the community wishes to object to any material used for instruction or available in a school media center, that may be done using the form HERE.  Finally, a parent or member of the community may request a review of any material in our media center by clicking the link to the right.
