Buchanan Teacher Bio

Meet Mrs. Buchanan

Born in Gainesville, Florida, I truly have been a Gator fan my entire life. I grew up in Sarasota, Florida and was involved in competitive sailboat racing. After spending all of my summers teaching other kids how to sail and volunteering in my mother’s classroom, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I graduated from the University of North Florida with a degree in Elementary Education. The first 14 years of my teaching career were in Duval County where I was named Hendricks Avenue Elementary Teacher of the Year and also earned Duval Elementary Mathematics Council Teacher of the Year for the county. I taught 1 year at Wards Creek Elementary in St. Johns County and I now love being a Cardinal. All of my years have been in grades 3-5, with the majority in 4th grade. I truly enjoy this age group and love how we become such a close community of learners in our classroom. Besides my students, my family is also very important to me. Michael and I have 4 kids, a dog, and a bunny! Most weekends you can find us on the soccer field, at a track meet, practicing gymnastics, camping, or on the water.
